Limited Masterworks Vase Pink Beauty

Portrayals of domestic flora in all their wondrous variety have been popular at the Meissen manufactory since the very beginning. Our porcelain painters appear to be particularly taken by the elegant beauty of the water-lily - queen of all aquatic plants - given that it has featured centrally in a great diversity of decorative schemes from different artistic epochs over the centuries. With its large, plate-shaped leaves, it transforms lakes and ponds into profusions of floral splendour in the summer.

Our porcelain painter Heike Wuttke invokes the romantic mood of a summer's day with shades of powdery pink. A ground comprising various nuances of the softest green imaginable conjures up an enchanted pond landscape, whilst spots of glossy accent gilding mimic the light of the hot summer sun. Dragonflies meticulously captured in flight round off a picture of Mother Nature that has been executed in perfect unison with the vase's bulbous styling. Ms Wuttke adopts a special technique of glaze painting with a view to creating an exciting mix of matt and shiny areas. The droplets of water dripping off the water-lily's foliage and flowers look astonishingly real.

Europe's first porcelain manufactory excels in combining a variety of painting techniques and in the process expanding what is already a huge repertoire. This is an approach that each new generation of porcelain painters learns anew, modifies, further perfects and passes down.
