description
This spring figurine group is a typical genre scene of the Rococo period, and belongs to the cycle of four seasons by Johann Carl Schönheit, whose modelling set influential standards at MEISSEN at the end of the 18th century. During his time there, the manufactory turned its attention to several pastoral subjects, which were rendered following the example of French painters Watteau and Boucher. Such was the case with this figurine group, which conveys the beauty of an idyllic pastoral scene: A man and a woman weaving a wreath of spring flowers. Applied by hand with filigree brushstrokes, the colourful adornment follows the historic Rococo tradition, and, thanks to its real gold edges and the use of modern pigments, allows this influential era in the manufacture's history to shine in vibrant splendour.
