With blossoms or ears of corn, the little putti symbolize the seasons. Thus, on the one hand, the small figures represent how the natural rhythm of life is dependent on the powers of the heavens, but they also show the pleasurable side of nature. By depicting them in mid-motion, Kaendler gave each figure incredible vitality and its natural, individual expression. For example, the sculpture "Spring" scatters flowers across the land.
