A sculpture full of detail and oriental magic - the work of art "Pagoda group with umbrella". In the early 18th century, the gaze of aristocratic society turned to China, which became synonymous with sophistication and limited luxury. At Meissen, under the inspiring guidance of Johann Joachim Kaendler, another limited edition work of art is created - a figurine with which the master modeller imaginatively stages Asian life. The sculpture from 1746 is an impressive testimony to European Oriental fantasies of that time. It shows the happy figure of Buddha, here hand-painted with great imagination. Typical for Kaendler are the detailed elaboration of the sculpture, the lively poses and symbolic elements such as the figure of the parrot, as a symbol of exoticism, as well as the lush hand-painted decorated floral robe, which is modeled on Chinese porcelain decorations.
