description
Art thrives on overcoming convention and then returning to it. This could have been the motto of the Karlsruhe-born sculptor, graphic artist and painter Willy Münch-Khe, whose model designs from the first half of the 20th century are an integral part of our range. Münch-Khe was a border crosser between styles and forms of expression, innovative, enigmatic and versatile. In 1912 and 1913, he created vessels and vessel decorations between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. In the 1920s, he surprised us with literary figures that are among the best of their genre and from 1928 onwards, the eccentric artist excelled with conventionally designed young animal figures that are sure to bring back your childhood memories of the local rural animal world. Münch-Khe has captured the clumsy way in which these creatures stumble into the world so pointedly that they arouse our full sympathy. In this respect, his animals are not only exquisitely designed and beautiful to look at, but they also call for a responsible and loving approach to their living role models. Münch-Khe created the model for his deer in 1938 and it is also available in Böttger stoneware (86176).
