"Make way, here comes the animal sculptor Erich Oehme" - with these words the sculptor once demanded admission to the Dresden Zoo. In view of the animal sculptures with which the artist realized his craft with meticulousness and attention to detail, we can confidently forgive his extravagance.
The figure "Skyeterrier" shows a faithful dog and is an expression of his masterful craftsmanship. The velvety Böttger stoneware radiates matte elegance and perfection. After a nerve-racking series of experiments, the alchemist Johann Friedrich Böttger succeeded in producing the so-called "jasper porcelain" in 1707. Clear lines and fine details give the droll dog liveliness and dynamism. The figure testifies to excellent craftsmanship.
