description
It is the world's oldest and largest collection of model molds for porcelain sculptures and dinner services: around 700,000 individual molds for historical figurines, vases, boxes and services from over three centuries are stored in MEISSEN's impressive mold archive. Meter-high shelves and cabinets preserve this valuable piece of European craftsmanship. Treasures from the past can be found here time and time again, such as this large shell bowl from 1857, which the manufacturers discovered almost by chance. The condition of the mold also shows that it has never been made in porcelain before, which was certainly due in no small part to the various technical challenges that also gave our manufactory workers a headache. The greatest difficulty was that the individual assembly parts still had to fit together exactly even after drying, glazing and the various firing processes. This piece is wonderfully reminiscent of MEISSEN's baroque porcelain art and reflects the ideal of that era in its opulence and presentation. The mystical theme of water, which recurs throughout the story, is also artfully translated in great detail by the large shell and the fantasy creatures of seahorses and the figurines with a fish tail.
