Limited Masterworks Vase Winter

The changing of the seasons has always featured prominently in art, be it in poetry, painting or porcelain art. The magic of the first delicate flowers of spring, lush, gleamingly golden meadows in summer, harvest-time in the autumn; these have all regularly inspired MEISSEN artists to produce new masterpieces over the centuries and in the process established the Four Seasons as a fully-fledged genre in their own right at Europe's oldest porcelain manufactory.

This winter vase ensemble sees MEISSEN porcelain painter Holger Schill adding to his Spring, Summer and Autumn vases to complete a cycle of the Four Seasons with a work of consummate modelling art and porcelain painting of the highest order. Shrubs and blooms such as winter aconite and hellebore demonstrate just how fecund the winter can be whilst the red berries of the holly-bush serve hungry little birds as a welcome form of nourishment at this frugal time of year. Intricate painted detail is complemented by sprigged features such as leaves, fruit and birds that allow the wintry scene to be experienced in 3D. Nature, it has to be said, is the loveliest source of inspiration.
