description
It is the artistic icon of an entire era, hard to beat in terms of opulence, scale and craftsmanship: Commissioned by Heinrich Graf von Brühl, Johann Joachim Kaendler, Johann Friedrich Eberlein and Johann Gottlieb Ehder produced the "Swan Service" from 1737 to 1742, consisting of over 2,200 individual pieces. The visually stunning Baroque ensemble was to exceed the client's wildest expectations.
Even today, more than 250 years after its creation, it is a matter close to our hearts to bring something from the extensive range of this century-old service back to life, like this bowl. Vessels of this type were primarily used to serve sugar or salt, but also oranges. In addition to swans as the defining basic motif, the tableware is enlivened by numerous other figures taken from Greek mythology and the world of water, the swans' habitat. Dolphins whose bodies are painted in dark blue with bright red details, so that each individual scale can be recognized, wind around the shell-like bowl.
The year of origin varies, but some art-historical features suggest that this is an addition to the service from the mid-19th century.
