Limited Edition Frog Vase

Porcelain artist Maximilian Hagstotz often engages with the out-of-the-ordinary in his work. Taking his cue from the traditional tulip vase, which always holds a single tulip, the Meissen sculptor nevertheless opted to add one or two rather special points of detail. In summer, a single beautiful flower occupies the two small openings at the top and bottom of the loop; at colder times of the year, by contrast, a small tea light creates a congenial or, indeed, romantic atmosphere. Mr Hagstotz has remained true to one of his favourite themes, the moulded decoration of animal statuary, in his design. He tells the romantic story of a small tropical frog clambering up one of the vase's circular walls, eagerly awaited by his beloved, who sits expectantly on a leaf. Windowleaf philodendron leaves are scattered about the inside of the vase's loop. The closed loop symbolises a tropical habitat transformed into a small circular paradise. Hagstotz has created a work of art with this extraordinary vase whose consummate splendour and deeper meaning are only revealed to the beholder on closer inspection.
