description
Extravagant and exclusive. The MEISSEN figurine "Tailor on a billy goat" is an impressive work of art, which Johann Joachim Kaendler first created in 1737. The elaboration of the details places the highest demands on the craftsman's skills. The needles and eyelets for the pincushion are modeled and placed freehand. The goat's shaggy coat also requires a skilled modeling hand to appear as lively and natural as possible. The billy goat's glasses are only put on at the very end - because they have no temples, they are difficult to attach. Every detail of the porcelain figure is hand-painted. This dreamlike work of art is part of the MEISSEN Exclusive Collection and is based on a legend which says that the court tailor longed to sit at the banqueting table in Dresden Palace. This wish prompted some courtiers to commission this hand-painted figurine from Johann Joachim Kaendler as a joke. This imposing porcelain figure "Tailor on a billy goat" not only shows the craftsmanship of the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory, but also a piece of courtly culture and satire.
