description
The work of art of a limited edition figure, which in hand-painted decorated beauty shows the fascination for the distant. For this sculpture, it all began in 1659 when a Dresden merchant ordered Japanese porcelain for export to Europe. To this day, some of these early pieces can be found in the Dresden Porcelain Collections. For 300 years now, Japanese porcelain art has inspired Meissen's artists: including Alfred König, one of the manufactory's most important Art Nouveau modelers. His limited edition figure of the Japanese man wears a magnificently hand-painted yukata, a traditional Japanese garment richly decorated with artwork of Asian motifs. The contrast between the sculpture's simple design and the intricate painting conveys elegance and harmony. For the Meissen Masterpieces 2013, this detailed hand-painted sculpture was reissued in a limited edition. A figure with deep meaning - because like many others, this work of art testifies to the long friendship of two important porcelain cultures.
