Limited Edition Flaming Pearl in black and gild

In Chinese mythology, dragons are true wonder animals, god-like and endowed with magical powers. The water dragon in particular is still worshipped in rural areas today. According to legend, this deity carries a pearl across all waters, which represents either a lucky jewel or an object of power over the tides. The realization of this mythological being by sculptor Maria Walther plays with the winding lines that define the sculptural forms in light and shadow. Riding on the waves of all waters, the dragon entwines the pearl with its serpentine body. The sinuous body winds and spirals dynamically forward, nestling against its element, the water. The sculpture's extraordinarily powerful formal language is striking. The combination with the black accents makes the golden scales shine and emphasizes the meandering coils of the mystical celestial creature. Dark clouds darken the sky and bring the longed for downpour that allows new life to grow.
