Over and over, every year again, the same question arises: What is the right Christmas gift? With children it's easy, but when it comes to gifts for grown-ups who often can buy everything themselves (and who feel they already have everything), it is sometimes more difficult. We want the gifts for family and friends to be something special and unique, a surprise that comes from the heart and that the recipient does not expect. The search for the right gift is often stressful and spoils the joy of giving. Yet it can be so simple: With a personalised gift, you give your present an individual touch and convey a personal message. Personalised gifts signal special appreciation and remain in the recipient's memory. They show the other person that they are important to us, that we notice and see them.

Sociobiologists assume that the custom of gift giving developed directly from courting a partner and brood care behaviour. Even young children make the early experience that the act of sharing strengthens relationships and promotes friendships. Children prefer to give gifts spontaneously and usually made by themselves. Adults tend to give gifts ritualistically and on special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. No matter what and how you give, gifts that come from the heart always have one thing in common: they will give double joy. The tingling excitement of whether the surprise will please is felt at least as strongly by the giver as by the person unwrapping the package. Seeing the sparkle of joy in the other person's eyes makes us happy ourselves.
