Two renowned German manufacturers, the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory and Herrnhuter®, have now joined forces in an impressive collaboration to create a unique gift set. The Herrnhut® stars have a history as long and significant as the porcelain manufactory itself. The origin of the stars lies in the Moravian Church, a Protestant religious community founded in Upper Lusatia in 1722. The stars, which today shine in many windows and churches during the Advent season, symbolize the light that was brought into the world - a Christian metaphor for the birth of Jesus Christ. The tradition of the Herrnhut® stars began in the early 19th century, when children in the boarding schools of the Moravian Church began to fold three-dimensional stars out of paper as a mathematical exercise. These handmade stars, which were initially just simple handicrafts, developed over time into a symbol of the run-up to Christmas and were soon produced on a large scale. Today, the stars are available in different sizes and colors, with the classic 25-pointed star being the best known.
