Review of the year 2024
#MEISSENMOMENTS
  • What a year 2024 was for MEISSEN! Numerous significant events have made the year unforgettable. This time flew by, packed with moments that we will remember for a long time to come. Now, as we approach the end of the year, it is time to reflect on the shining highlights that made 2024 so special for the MEISSEN porcelain manufactory.

For MEISSEN, 2024 was a year that shone with innovation and craftsmanship, but was also under the sign of the dragon. In the Chinese Year of the Dragon, we were guided by its symbolic power to redefine our creative paths. The reinterpretation of the classic Ming dragon by our product designer Zhuoyu Hou, the fortune dragon, became the central element of our communication and had a decisive influence on the design of our products. It found its place in the “VITRUV Fortune Dragon” tableware collection, the innovative “MEISSEN2Go” coffee to go mugs and the mugs in our “The MEISSEN Mug Collection”. This year, the fortune dragon symbolizes the powerful fusion of our deeply rooted traditions with the modern zeitgeist at MEISSEN.

At the end of April, MEISSEN opened its doors and gave numerous visitors a uniquely deep insight behind the scenes of Europe's first porcelain manufactory, as is only possible on an open day. Over 7,000 guests took this unique opportunity to explore the complete authenticity of the real manufactory environment on their own or as part of guided tours and discover every little nook and cranny. They exchanged ideas with our passionate manufactory experts and delved deep into the secret of the “white gold”. The day was full of highlights, including captivating talks and a varied program for both adults and children, providing unforgettable moments for all visitors.

Another highlight of the Open Day was our “MEISSEN passion that gets under your skin” campaign! In collaboration with the tattoo studio STICHCODE, we offered the opportunity to get a tattoo of the Crossed Swords - the famous MEISSEN trademark and seal of originality - and thus create a lasting connection to our history, the brand or the region. Our CEO Tillmann Blaschke and Radio Dresden presenter André Hardt kicked things off. In view of the great popularity of this campaign, further dates were offered over the course of the year - and we are far from finished.
"Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us."
  • The year 2024 was also the year of coffee at MEISSEN. Under the motto “Coffee with Style”, we took the enjoyment of tableware to a whole new level, perfectly tailored to current user needs without losing the core of our brand. Our unique “MEISSEN2Go” porcelain coffee to go mugs with designs from over 300 years of manufacturing history brought luxurious indulgence to the streets. In addition, our popular “The MEISSEN Mug Collection” was given a major update: the classic mug in the “Berlin” shape is now also available in XXL as a Big Mug - with a filling volume of a full 500 ml / 16.9 fl. oz. - perfect for the really big enjoyment.

The BIG BANG in 2024 is without doubt the collaboration with the world-famous artist Michael Moebius. In the MEISSEN x Michael Moebius “Legends Blowing Bubbles - Collection”, modern pop art merged with over 300 years of MEISSEN craftsmanship and made the icons Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn shine in “white gold”. Within 15 months of traditional craftsmanship, the first of ten porcelain busts of the pop icons was created, completed with a gum bubble made of glass from the renowned Moser glass manufaturer. This bust was inspired by Michael Moebius' famous Bubblegum series, which depicts playful portraits of well-known personalities. These portraits, in particular that of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', not only adorned the mugs in our “The MEISSEN Mug Collection”, but also enriched our collection with two exquisite Christmas tree baubles later in the year.

What was your personal MEISSEN highlight in 2024? We have experienced numerous fantastic moments, from impressive events such as our in-house exhibition to the grand opening of the Porcelain Terrace - not forgetting our inspiring partnerships with brands such as Westwing, MÜHLE Rasurkultur, BOTEANICALS and Silbermanufaktur Quandt. There is so much more to mention, but space is limited. We look forward with great anticipation to another year full of extraordinary events and creative collaborations in 2025.
