Limited Masterworks Vase, Iris with butterflies

The first thing that catches the eye is the dark, intense base: deep black and shiny, it captivates the viewer and makes the hand-painted onglaze colors of delicate light blue to strong peach and orange tones of the various iris blossoms shine. This style of painting with floral motifs and butterflies is typical of MEISSEN^®'s hand-painted limited edition artwork. It is inspired by the fine flower and insect painting of the naturalist Maria Sybilla Merian (1647- 1717). The masterpieces in Merian's painting style are characterized by particularly fine brushstrokes or details, intricately hand-painted, in the form of filigree petals as well as delicate insect wings.
Lena Hensel and Liane Friebe were inspired to create this colorful, detailed motif, which, in combination with the bold background, celebrates the traditional theme of blossoms and butterflies on the vase in a contemporary way.
