description
The enchanting snowball blossoms on vases, serving vessels and boxes are among the strokes of genius of the Meissen modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler. Commissioned in 1739 by August III for his wife Maria Josepha of Austria, it is one of the milestones of German Baroque table art. Kaendler's countless white flowers, still moulded and applied by hand today, transformed "everyday" objects into magnificent works of art that transcended the triviality of everyday life. Over the centuries, the iconic flowers have undergone repeated artistic changes, carefully adapted here and there to the taste of the times, adorning new or historical forms from the archives. However, they have never before been seen in powdery pink and blue, mixed with painted golden flowers and handles. The delicate pastel colors and small painted snowball blossoms are playfully continued on the saucers, giving the historic service with the famous name a contemporary lightness. The first golden age of the Meissen manufactory began in the mid-18th century with Johann Joachim Kaendler. Under his leadership, he produced sculptures and services over a period of more than 40 years, which are regarded as trendsetting for porcelain art and with which he sealed Meissen's fame throughout Europe.
