MEISSEN WORLD OF INDULGENCE #momentsofenjoyment
  • It is as delicious as legendary: the "Dresdner Christstollen". According to tradition, it was first baked in Torgau in 1457 by the royal kitchen chief Heinrich Drasdow, who also gave it its name. The fact that the Drasdower Stollen finally became the Dresden Stollen is attributed to the famous Saxon dialect... However, the Stollen of the middle Ages had little in common with the Stollen we know today. It was served as a fasting pastry and consisted only of flour, yeast and water. In the spirit of abstinence, the Catholic Church allowed neither butter nor milk. Fortunately, Pope Innocent VIII lifted the ban in 1491 with the so-called "Butter Letter" - and thus ensured the triumphal march of the "Dresdner Christstollen" as we know it today. In honour of this Saxon delicacy, MEISSEN is launching a gourmet set, consisting of a 500g heavy "Dresdner Christstollen" - of course genuinely marked with the golden Stollen seal - and the serving platter from the "N°41 Waves Relief" collection. The idea for the collection shape came to the chief sculptor Jörg Danielczyk during a morning fishing trip. Like a rippled sea, the wavy lines bring the surfaces of the individual pieces to life and emphasise the plasticity of the Meissen porcelain.

Also the mulled wine originates from Saxony, more precisely from Radebeul. In the estate of Raugraf August Josef von Wackerbarth, employees of the Saxon State Archives came across Germany's oldest mulled wine recipe, dated 1834. Of course, also the Swedes had already added spices to their "Glögg" in the 16th century. And the ancient Romans are also said to have added spices to their (albeit cold) wines. But it definitely tastes best when coming from home! This is why the Saxon State Winery Schloss Wackerbarth has reinterpreted the recipe of the Earl in a modern way. "Weiß & Heiß" (White & Hot) is the name of the tasty white mulled wine, which is bottled in the Wackerbarth Winery. Exquisite Saxon white wine meets grape juice and orange liqueur, spiced with cinnamon, saffron, cardamom and ginger. This mulled wine can be enjoyed in perfect Christmas style when served in the exclusive mulled wine cups with star relief from the Meissen porcelain manufactory. Refine the cold season in an exquisite way: whether you are warming up from a long winter walk, recovering from the hustle and bustle of Advent or looking for an exclusive gift for your loved ones: This gourmet set not only warms the stomach but also the heart and ensures a festive mood and hours of enjoyment.
