Honorary prizes made of porcelain for the 50th IFRF #porcelainhorse
This year, from the 13th to the 17th of December 2023, the International Festhalle Frankfurt Horse Show (IFRF) will take place for the 50th time under the 40-metre-high dome of the more than 100-year-old Frankfurt Festhalle. As usual, one week before Christmas, the event is one of the absolute highlights of the international equestrian sport calendar, bringing together the world's best in their classes of dressage and show jumping. While the dressage will continue to be held at the highest possible five-star level this year, the show jumping competitions have now been raised to four-star level for the first time, offering equestrian sport fans even more excitement and quality than in previous years. In addition, in honour of its 50th anniversary, the show will be launched this year on the eve of the first sporting events with a big show celebrating the show's history and equestrian sport.
There will also be another special feature this year for the very first time: MEISSEN will be providing unique honorary prizes for the winners of individual disciplines. In this way, the tradition of the renowned tournament centred around the passion of equestrian sport meets the tradition and passionate craftsmanship of our porcelain manufactory. The champions of the so-called "Youngster Tour", the "Grand Prix Special" and the "Winning Round" will each receive one of three fine porcelain Arabian stallions by MEISSEN artist Jörg Danielczyk in unmistakable "Frankfurt purple". In addition, the winner of the "Jump & Drive" special event will be presented with the "Horse Grande" figurine with a very special painting in the style of a chequered flag as a trophy.

Animals and animal sculptures have a very special tradition at MEISSEN. Even in the early days of the manufactory's history, numerous animal sculptures were created at the behest of Augustus the Strong himself for the Japanese palace, with which the world-famous Saxon Elector wanted to fulfil his dream of a porcelain palace. In addition to the modeller Johann Gottlieb Kirchner, the young court sculptor Johann Joachim Kaendler was hired especially for this task. With the large animal sculptures in particular, both were not only able to make a name for themselves, but also to open up the limits and possibilities of European hard porcelain, which had hardly been explored until then - and thus make a valuable contribution to the success and fame of MEISSEN in two respects.
Over the centuries, other highly talented modellers were to follow in the footsteps of Kirchner and Kaendler and expand the portfolio of MEISSEN porcelain figurines with countless breathtaking animal sculptures - whether Paul Walther, Erich Oehme or the great Jörg Danielczyk. After Danielczyk had already been working for the manufactory for nine years, the master modeller at the time, Peter Strang, chose him at random from a number of manufactory artists to model a horse. Not just any horse, but a real equestrian celebrity: the Hessian mare Halla, who won gold several times at the Summer Olympics together with Hans Günter Winkler. Danielcyk managed to fully penetrate and reproduce the character of the animal model, so that the enthusiastic Peter Strang took him on as a pupil and moulded him into the great modeller that he was until his retirement in 2017. He was also able to demonstrate this talent in 2013 with the creation of the noble Arabian, which now served as the model for the three purple prizes of honour at the 50th IFRF.
We are looking forward to the breathtaking anniversary show of the 50th International Festhalle Frankfurt Horse Show as well as to the numerous extraordinary achievements in equestrian sport. We are proud to be part of this great IFRF story.
