Enter a place full of mysteries and secrets. Founded by August the Strong, the Meissen manufactory is the first and also the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. The House of MEISSEN is the region's landmark and offers incredible stories to experience and discover.
In the House of MEISSEN, you will find porcelain art that is second to none - for example, the largest free-standing porcelain figure in the world, "Saxonia". With a height of 1.80 metres and a flower dress made of 8000 individual Snowball Blossoms, it is a truly unique masterpiece that makes the entire room shine. You can also expect exciting insights into the creation of white gold in the show workshop, culinary highlights in our Café MEISSEN and a journey through time in the Porcelain Foundation Museum. A special highlight is our manufakTOUR, which takes you on an extraordinary tour of discovery behind the scenes of Europe's first porcelain manufactory. A visit to our modern and inviting store and outlet is the crowning glory of your visit to our company.
You can experience the extraordinary craftsmanship of Meissen in our show workshops. From the shaping of the porcelain mass on the wheel, to the embossing of filigree individual parts and their details, as well as the very elaborate porcelain painting in underglaze and onglaze painting. Figurines are garnished here with a sure instinct, which is how the individual parts are put together, without creating distinctive lugs. Thus the final figurine appears as if cast from one mould and enchants millions of people. The figurines often use existing, centuries-old forms that are taken up and brought to life with fresh ideas. An example of this is the Cupid. This was created by Johann Pollak in 1880 and now appears in a contemporary T-shirt.
For an even more detailed insight into the elaborate production techniques and the numerous steps that go into making Meissen porcelain, since September 2021 we have been offering a behind-the-scenes journey with the manufakTOUR, in which you are given a guided tour of all production areas such as the foundry, turning shop, figurine production or the mould archive. Our guides will go into detail about the individual work processes and you will have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of our craftsmen while the white gold is being lovingly handcrafted and to have any unanswered questions answered by our guides or the staff. unanswered questions and wonders revealed.
